Superman (2025) Film Theory: Legacy in the DCU (Image Post and First Thoughts on the Teaser Trailer)

Image
Just something I cooked up right after the trailer and before I leave for vacation, based on theories I've already discussed a lot around on Reddit. Some thoughts I also posted: That shot of Superman shielding that little girl from harm, definitely my favorite one in this trailer. Love to see both people clearly being inspired by him like that little boy with the flag hoping he'd hear his cries, people chanting "Superman", and others hating him and gathering like an angry mob. There's a lot of nuance to how the world sees Superman and the polarization behind it, here's hoping they tackle it better than its predecessors. It's important to see him multidimensionally, he can be both vulnerable and hopeful. Lex looks great! Bald right away (no hair to be shaved later, no wigs, no beard), clearly physically imposing and not comedic, the Luthorcorp building looks awesome James Gunn's not been shy on saying he'll embrace his scientific genius which is g...

DC All-In 2024 Breakdown and Theories (Ft. Justice League Unlimited, Darkseid and The Absolute Universe)

Image
This post is divided into 3 parts, feel free to read at your own pace! I. "Better late than never."  Recapping previous events and theories II. Alpha Justice League Unlimited and more on the main DC Universe III. Omega Darkseid and the Absolute Universe An early Merry Christmas (Advent right now for my fellow Catholics) and Happy New Year! Link to Post on Reddit I. "Better late than never." DC All-In is here!  Kickstarting the new initiative was the Special one-shot, followed by the launching of the Absolute line, and new titles such as Justice League Unlimited and the New Gods. But let's step back a bit and recap some old news. In the All-In Special, we see a lot of call backs and threads of storytelling brought back. Of course we get a recap to recent events like   Absolute Power  and House of Brainaic , as well as Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths.  Now if you're familiar with me, chances are you saw my old theory posts. I started out with Doomsday Clock , ...

My Favorite Episode of Superman & Lois: "Just a Regular Guy" (and some more stuff)

Image
Now for those familiar with me I used to do theory posts over at r/DCcomics a lot, and back in season 1 I made some for this show too .  Years later, on the show's final season, the 7th episode hit me harder than any previous one. As a life long Superman fan, if it wasn't already this episode cemented this show and this iteration of Superman as one of my favorites, with Tyler Hoechlin now being the best live-action iteration of the character overall.  A lot of people have made posts too so I felt I could do one for old times sake. Not necessarily for theories but just a breakdown, analysis and appreciation post  also compiling some of my comments and thoughts to share from recently too. I. Who is Clark Kent? First, some people in other subreddits and on Twitter have made some criticisms for the show. I have my own but one I want to focus on was its portrayal of Clark Kent. See, it does the "real" Clark Kent perfectly. But it's also infamously not so great at por...

Theology Paper Excerpt Ft. Jim Corrigan, The Spectre

Image
I haven't posted since I got into Med school...  ...besides that 1 Miracle Monday post, and I'm currently on my second year. I did try making a House of Brainiac series of theory posts but didn't finish it time. I barely catch up on my own pull list in time, often weeks behind and barely knowing what happens in other books these days.  The good news is I do have some ideas lined up that I could make at any time, but in the mean time an encounter with u/Avenging_Spectre on r/Catholicmemes got me to remember this old paper I did for theology class in college. Basically, it was a midterm paper kind of thing that had to have your personal journey, compared to Moses (we studied the Torah/Pentateuch that semester), and someone else of your choice. Most people chose their parents or a saint, and I almost did that too, but I guess I wanted to try something different, and because our professor said we could even choose fictional characters. I also had to cite some theology and phi...

Elliot S! Maggin's Miracle Monday vs Alan Moore's Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? - (The Miracles and Tragedies of Pre-Crisis Bronze Age Superman)

Image
Link to Post on Reddit This is a post I've been meaning to make for over a year now. This will be divided into 5 segments after this brief introduction, feel free to read at your own pace: Identity Crisis Man of Tomorrow The Impossible Foe The Sanctity of Life Miracles and Tragedies Pre-Crisis Superman comics are heavily underrated these days. I'm a younger fan myself and it seems most older fans relative to me that I know grew up with early to late Post-Crisis, and so they heavily prefer that era. However, a lot of great Superman writers from that and even the current era like Mark Waid and Grant Morrison greatly prefer that older era, and have themselves criticized and/or retconned elements Byrne introduced in his reboot. So have Geoff Johns and Kurt Busiek in their runs. Because of this, a lot of fans in my generation seem to be following suit in appreciating it. There are plenty of great creators and works in the Bronze Age specifically. Shoutout of course to Cary Bates, an...
