Superman and the Authority (Short Post After Series Finale)

Bit late but I finally got my hands on a physical copy of Superman and the Authority #4 and read all the issues again. A spectacular end to what might be Grant Morrison’s last work for DC. A legendary legacy they’ve made. This joins Morrison's own Superman saga of excellent stories from his JLA run, DC One Million, All-Star,  Final Crisis, Action Comics run and Multiversity. Outside Superman, his runs on Animal Man and Doom Patrol are well-acclaimed and their Batman run is my personal favorite too.

It’s quite interesting how they’re connecting Superman and the Authority to the current continuity with Warworld, even mentioning Metal while also referring to the Uni-Friend that communicates from the Source to Highfather. Seems connected to the Genesis Fragment.

Overall, this was a spectacular finish to this series. Grant Morrison, if this ends up being their final work for DC, went out with a bang. Loved seeing Ultra-Humanite make a come back, as well as classic Brainiac with his pet monkey Koko. Paying homage to while modernizing the past one last time. It’s also great to see Manchester Black back and be given a chance to be a real hero working with Superman this time.

I'm really looking forward to how Phillip Kennedy Johnson will tie-in and use this for his ambitious Warworld saga. His Action Comics is shaping up to be a great run with a bright future for the Man of Tomorrow.

  1. Loved the use of Brainiac coming full circle from the beginning of Morrison's Action Comics run. Super stoked to see how this connects to the wider mystery in PKJ's run and his mention of the "Orphans of the Source Wall". The Fifth World is here; Opti-Humans of Earth take up the mantle of the Shining Ones while the New Gods retire to guide the destiny of Earth-51 just as Morrison (and Kirby I hope) intended with Final Crisis.

    1. Ohhh right I almost forgot those hints. PKJ really is going to dive deep into the Fourth (and Fifth) World too. Lots of big stuff coming from his run, building on the old and new.
